WordPress censors GenderTrender; Gallus Mag responds.

UPDATE December 6, 2018

4thWaveNow has returned Gallus Mag’s statement to its complete and original form as she submitted it to us.

Background: Shortly after we published GenderTrender’s statement, Automattic/WordPress.com–which at the time hosted the 4thWaveNow website–redacted the name of the individual Gallus Mag describes in her statement.  Employees at Automattic/Wordpress.com manually edited our website, replacing the name with “[redacted]” in four places. This was done without consulting with us in any way; we were only informed after the fact.  Since that time, we are aware of at least two other WordPress.com writers who were also subjected to the same stealth censorship treatment. This is in spite of the fact that the individual’s name has appeared (with the same details discussed in the below statement) on the websites of multiple news outlets. See here for a complete list.

We have restored the below statement to read as Gallus Mag intended.

4thWaveNow reached out to Gallus Mag of GenderTrender after WordPress dumped the site without warning. In her most recent post, Gallus Mag  broke the full story of a Canadian MTF trans activist who has launched “human rights” complaints against a group of women’s salon workers who were unwilling to touch and wax male genitalia. GallusMag revealed other details about the activist’s prior social media activities, some of which pertained to underage girls.

GenderTrender’s importance as a groundbreaking investigative reporting outlet covering the excesses of transgender activism cannot be overstated. The site has also served as an incubator and launching pad for many other bloggers and writers; 4thWaveNow’s founder counts herself among them.

The loss of GenderTrender is a huge blow. It is also the latest casualty in a growing clash between, on one side, a loose coalition of feminists, parents, gay and lesbian people, detransitioners, free speech advocates, clinicians, and other supporters; and on the other side, a collection of extremist transgender advocates who will tolerate no dissent from anyone, from any quarter.

Gallus Mag’s statement follows.

Statement:

by Gallus Mag of GenderTrender

WordPress.com pulled the plug on GenderTrender, TransgenderTropes101, RadfemReview, etc. on Friday November 16. I was notified via email by “Sal P.” of Automattic, the company that administers WordPress.com. He stated:

“Hello,

We received a report regarding the publication of private/personal information on your blogs. Specifically, the malicious publication of private details of a person’s gender identity.

Publishing this type of content is forbidden by our Terms of Service, and as such your account has been suspended.

If you would like to continue publishing this type of information, you are free to export your content, and move it to a more appropriate WordPress host

To download your content and take it elsewhere, you can use the export tool below for a limited time:”

Presumably the “malicious publication of private details of a person’s gender identity” referred to Jonathan Yaniv, the subject of my final post on November 8. Since that post, Mr. Yaniv has been successful at using false DMCA requests to remove public information about himself from the internet (see Twitter and Facebook).

I wrote back to Automattic/Wordpress.com and informed them of my longstanding policy to never post information from private sources (such as private social media accounts or Facebook groups, etc.) and reiterated the blog’s longstanding support of the rights of everyone affected by gender to hold their own beliefs without facing harassment or discrimination. I asked them to reinstate the blogs, as they had been suspended in error.

I received a response today, November 17, from an individual named “Knox”, who stated:

“Hello,

According to our Privacy Policy, the malicious publication of private details related to gender identity includes publishing former names. You can see more information regarding this policy at:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/private-information/

If you would like to continue publishing this type of information, you are free to export your content, and move it to a more appropriate WordPress host

To download your content and take it elsewhere, you can use the export tool below for a limited time:”

This clarified for me that Automattic/Wordpress now considers the publishing of former names a form of malicious publication, if that individual declares a “transgender identity”. I looked at the portion of the TOS linked to by “Knox” and noted that five days after my post on Jonathan Yaniv’s human rights complaints against women who refused to wax his balls, Automattic/Wordpress.com enacted a new, unannounced, change to their Terms of Service that redefined “the malicious publication of private details” to include any reference to the legal or former name of any individual who declares a transgender identity.

There are over 36,000 blogs on Automattic/Wordpress.com that refer to the individual many know as Bruce Jenner. According to the new, unannounced TOS, these blogs are committing an act of malicious publication of Jenner’s private information and are subject to immediate removal from the platform without warning.

To be clear: As of November 13, 2018, the former life of any individual who now declares themselves transgender can never be referred to using materials which reveal the name they formerly used, even if it is their legal name, the name they used last week, or the name by which they are commonly known. For example, quoting news sources which identified serial killer “Donna Perry” by his former name Douglas Perry has become an act of “malicious publication” according to Automattic/Wordpress.com which will result in sudden removal of the blog (and any other unrelated blogs by the same author) from the platform, without prior notification or opportunity for appeal, even if that post was made prior to the unannounced changes to the TOS.

Will this new policy be widely enforced? Of course not. I believe this change to the WordPress TOS was hastily conceived as a guise to censor lesbian and feminist authors who are critical of “gender identity” ideology, specifically those who investigate or critique the actors behind various political or judicial campaigns to limit the rights of women. I believe this change is a direct result of GenderTrender’s exposure of Jonathan Yaniv, the figure behind 16 Canadian human rights complaints against women who declined to wax his balls, as an alleged sexual predator. I believe this unannounced change to the TOS, applied retroactively without prior warning or notification, is a ruse to justify the specific targeted censorship of certain popular long running lesbian and feminist blogs who critique the ingrained (and sometimes criminal!) misogyny of the transgender movement. I believe this is an organized, intentional initiative by WordPress.com to eliminate lesbian and feminist criticism and exposure of the epidemic harassment, predation, and sex-specific terrorism of male bodied people upon female bodied people, regardless of their personal “identity”.

As for “The future of GenderTrender”(and the other websites): contrary to the kind offer of “Sal P.” and “Knox” of Automattic, it is not possible to simply transfer the site to another host. Only a “live” blog can be transferred to another host. This is why it took 8 months for an archive to be created for RadfemHub (which was only online for a year) after the failure to renew the domain account by the wealthy patron it was entrusted to took it offline. By taking GenderTrender offline, Automattic/Wordpress.com has removed my access to my own work, specifically all media, images, screen caps and gifs published over 8 years in posts and comments. Their suggestion that I may export my content to another host is a fiction. Deleted blogs cannot be transferred. All media property posted on GenderTrender has been effectively stolen by Automattic/Wordpress.com. Piecing 8 years of blog content together manually from recovered or found sources would be cost and time prohibitive. I have requested that Automattic provide me with a transferrable export of GenderTrender and my other blogs and am breathlessly awaiting their reply. /s

I do have personal copies of the text of most of my original posts. Maybe I’ll put some of them somewhere at some point.

I would like to thank everyone who supported GenderTrender, with your readership, contributions, re-posts, and your beautiful beautiful comments. You taught me so much. What an incredible honor. I’m especially sad for the elimination of certain contributor posts, especially “FTM Detransitioning Experience: Quitting T and Getting Back to Life As A Woman” which was always one of my top rated posts and a source of great comfort and information for women looking to get off testosterone, many of whom shared vital perspectives in the comments. Also some of the guest posts from women recovering from partnership with autogynephiles (“trans widows”) with extensive critical information in comments from other survivors. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to effectively safeguard your important work and contributions against the censorial power of the misogynist men running Automattic/Wordpress.com who lack all ethics.

I believe what Automattic/Wordpress.com is doing to lesbian and feminist bloggers is criminal. I support a Congressional Inquiry into the selective censorship conducted by US based social media and blogging platforms. I support government regulation of such companies as public utilities, subject to constitutional law regarding freedom of speech.

Thank You.

      • I owe so much to you, Gallus. Finding your blog really opened my eyes and made me read about radical feminism. I will be forever grateful to you for that. I’ve donated to you in the past, and I will definitely donate to you in the future if you can start another blog, project, whatever.

On Mumsnet someone said that you will be remembered as an investigative journalist who was instrumental in the women’s liberation movement.

I agree. Good luck to you.

        JuliannaD

    • YES to a Congressional Hearing.
Also, Yaniv does in fact go by his male name, so it does not even constitute “dead naming”, so infuriating.
Thank you for all your incredible work, and I hope they allow you to retrieve as much as possible.
I’ve also noticed ( I can’t remember where ATM) that a internet citizen who’s archived your last entry is also offering to retrieve everything for you ?

    • You have been one of my major sources of news for almost four years, the site will be missed. Keep up the good fight. Much love and light, Juno

      • PS: is there any place to donate to GM, the possible rehoming of the site or archiving it? I’d be happy to throw in a few bucks.

  1. “I support a Congressional Inquiry into the selective censorship conducted by US based social media and blogging platforms. I support government regulation of such companies as public utilities, subject to constitutional law regarding freedom of speech.”

Absolutely. There is so much hypocrisy regarding the multitude of complaints about the manipulation of public opinion by Russian trolls, when we allow ourselves to be subjected to the same kind of social engineering through selective censorship or promotion by whomever happens to own/control social media platforms.

  2. I am the woman who contributed the detransitioning essay. I have been around all this time but usually use different handles to protect my privacy. I realize there is no way to prove that here (I may still have the original draft on my old computer but I don’t know.) I am beyond shocked and grieving to see Gender Trender come to such a sorry end after all the good it has done for so many women. I am completely willing to write a follow-up post to the one Gallus references here, since it has been a further 6-7 years down the road, if she ever starts a new website. The admin of this site is welcome to contact me privately at the email address in my registration here.

  3. They claim the post was malicious (having or showing a desire to cause harm to someone : given to, marked by, or arising from malice). I would ask them to point to the specific part of the post that meets that definition, after quoting the definition to them. Also if it’s possible to get the specifics of how to move blogs, I will. I’ve had mine with wordpress for 11 years. I don’t support this and will leave.

    • Thing is, that’s just what they want: to drive everyone who doesn’t buy into their ideology off to some obscure platform where no one will be able to find them. That way, they can artificially generate the appearance that theirs is the *only* acceptable belief system, and that the majority agrees with them.

    • Here’s an article on how to move your blog to a self-hosted site: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-properly-move-your-blog-from-wordpress-com-to-wordpress-org/
Basically, this creates a file of all your blog content that you can download to your computer, then import to a new WordPress site. You can also use this function to make regular backups in case your blog gets taken down without notice – as appears to have happened to GallusMeg.

      • better to not use wordpress and boycott. Use a host that allows for free speech, preferably not one in the US

      • You can move a live blog to another host, or download an xtml file. You cannot download an exportable form of media and image files, and you cannot transfer media and image files from a censored/supsended site to a new platform. If you’ve only had a blog for a year or two, and/or your blog is not image heavy, you can reassemble it at a new site. Once your blog is suspended you lose all access to all media and image files.

  4. Reblogged this on Team Free Will and commented:
I chose WordPress because I thought they were a platform that let people write what they wanted, barring copyrighted material and calls to violence. Apparently they too are beginning to silence voices that aren’t mainstream PC.

If anyone knows of a platform that genuinely allows free speech, please let me know, and I will be moving my content there.

  5. This is just horrifying and disgusting.

At some point hopefully sooner rather than later Congress will do a proper inquiry on Internet regulation where the Congresspeople have been fully briefed on what the hell the Internet is, and this episode will be a hugely important piece of evidence. Retroactively changing “malicious content“ to something so anodyne! Your old her name. Remember, all kinds of people change their names. Not just transgender people. Is this to apply to all name changes? If not how will WordPress/Automatic determine who is transgender and vase in title to destroy people‘s blogs for saying the forbidden name? “Rumplestiltskin!“ And what about criminals who then decide they’re transgender? That’s finally being debated in Britain. They’re going to end up with a law that says people like Douglass/Donna Perry and “Karen White“ will not be able to legally change their names. So will WordPress/Automatic just ignore that?

I’m really astonished that an entity that allows people to have their own little magazine-like website doesn’t have anybody on staff or on retainer to help them understand basic freedom of expression law. Or just regular law. You can’t just make up a rule, “old names = doxxing“ and then only enforce it on some people. It’s too obvious. You leave yourself open to being sued. Now if somebody wanted to bankroll a lawsuit by Gallus that would be great.

  6. I thought I would walk quietly away from the wreckage transactivists made of my kids’ school back in 2016, but then I stumbled across GenderTrender and 4th Wave. I spent two weeks barely sleeping, reading every post and every comment. Those two weeks turned into two years and I still can’t just walk away. You two have shown me the incredible power that each one of us has in saying what others are afraid to say. May your writing continue to inspire women to fight and may history long remember the contributions you both have made to the resistance.
Thank you, Gallus. I hope we’ll be hearing from you again soon.

    In solidarity,

    Emily Zinos

  7. Hi Gallus et al, I was extremely shocked to find gendertrender was down. I tried with my friend worriedmum3 to get a pushback but failed. I’d really like to know if CB had anything to do with this as she quoted wordpress line that you can port the site to another publisher. There were also suggestions flying that ‘louise’ was in it with Yaniv. I really hope you get another host as your investigative journalism was just what woman needed to keep abreast of the attacks on women by the trans machine.
    Stay strong! margaret

  8. Reblogged this on Fanny's Law of Attraction Experiment and commented:
I normally do not reblog other stuff, as I want it all focused on my experiments with the Law Of Attraction. But it seems like wordpress is no longer a safe platform for feminists, and thus not for me. Even though I do not really mention my political views on my blog, I do not feel comfortable using a platform that censors political views, no matter what I personally think of those political views.

Gender Trender was a great blog to follow, and raised important questions. The fact that WordPress is now censoring it just goes to show WHY it was such an important blog in the first place.

(And then we can discuss later how we all “attracted” all of this political madness).

  9. This is how the women-hating males operate they seek out male supporters and these powerful males then enact their male sex right to silence women!! Well it won’t work boys – cunning radical feminists will find a way to get their voices heard and unless the vile women hating boys lock up all women they will never silence us!

Meanwhile more proof the male created myth of trans is being used by powerful male owned corporate companies in order to enact their final solution – the complete silencing/erasure of all natal women!

So furious GallusMag this has happened to you and the criminal male owners of WordPress are thieves too but as we know getting them convicted of this crime will not happen because men control and operate their women-hating male supremacist legal system.

  10. There are many people who can help you to export the content and republish it on a “self-hosted” WordPress installation at a mainstream web-hosting company, including me. If you have a woman you trust to do that, I’d suggest beginning IMMEDIATELY as the process only takes a few hours (if that).

If you don’t know someone who can do this, please respond here and I am happy to help. Downloading the WordPress export XML file immediately is the main thing.

Other WordPress.com users would do well to learn how to ROUTINELY back up and save a local copy of their WordPress data as detailed at https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-all-export/ and to do so on a regular basis, perhaps monthly.

    • Sure, R, we can do that. Some women are programmers as you know. The common user is always going to be in trouble with this back-up thing. It’s not the topic though. Many platforms have a problem with a “transferable back-up”. Can you explain why is that the case in the last 15 years?

      • Vendor lock-in is a problem that most vendors don’t have much interest in solving, so hopefully someone will step up with an XML salvage. I’m not sure how much that will help if there were multiple users and guest bloggers and things like that, but I hope that most if not all can be salvaged.

There are some neat features inherent to the subdomain system at WordPress.com, but the way this attack was made (with a post-publication change to terms of service) shows that it can no longer be trusted.

When the publication of factually accurate information is grounds for termination under fluid TOS, this particular vendor is obviously suspect. Here is to seeing this content back up elsewhere, with thanks in advance to the sisters who help it happen!

      • Hey R, Hex JuLea_Sotto,

I want you to address this:

“Automattic’s email suggests that the blog owner can download all of their data, and host it elsewhere using their download tool they make available “for a limited time.” This useless tool is simply .xml files, which refers to links for the media files hosted on wordpress.com. When WordPress shut down the domain at WordPress.com, they also made downloading the media files impossible. Didn’t think that through, did you, WordPress engineers? It’s so shortsighted, I literally headdesked.”

        https://adland.tv/adnews/wordpress-shuts-down-several-feminist-blogs-without-warning

The same case with “transferable back-up” is on Twitter. I bet no one cares about that. But I do. I want us to discuss this problem. Can you confirm what kind of data your download on WordPress and Twitter is consisted of?

      • R, JuLea_Sotto,

I also DON’t GET THE DATA. I only get the xml DOCUMENTS (https://imgur.com/a/1L4AecL) about my data. And it’s not good solution! This practically means I need to have my blog ALIVE at WordPress at the point of “transfer” to another platform.

Also, I didn’t manage to import my WordPress into Tumblr all at once
The back-up contained only the data from 2010. Why? You can only import around 70 items to Tumblr in a day! And it has been a rule at Tumblr for years!
Large WordPress blogs are not going to migrate at Tumblr.
A common user has to break their XML documents to import this! And how? There’s a tool http://wp2tumblr.jonthornton.com/ while this post http://wpsecurity.org/49/how-to-migrate-from-wordpress-to-tumblr instruct you to use PHP.

And here how the post with the picture looks like: https://imgur.com/a/sp6kN26
The picture is linked directly to a picture FILE hosted on WordPress. It’s not really “IMPORTED” to Tumblr: https://cyberwanderlustblog.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/3abf6-tumblr_l5yx1qj6e91qbadueo1_500-scaled500.jpg

LOL! So, the blog back-ups are not really “transferable” !
Only the elites can do this. A common user is not going to be able to do this.
And that points out that we’re giving WordPress our data, just like we give our data to ANY SOCIAL MEDIA platform.

Feminists reading this: we need A WEBSITE of ONE’s OWN.

        ***Virginia Cyber Woolf

    • Golly, why didn’t I think of that? /s

The WordPress export XML file contains no image or media files. It contains only links to the live URLs hosted on Automattic/Wordpress.com. Once your blog is deleted you lose access to all media and image files. I thought my post was clear on the matter.
You can save the back-up of the export XML (AS I DID) until the cows come home, it won’t give you a single media file if they take down your blog. Please stop giving out bad, incorrect advice to women about how to back up their blogs ON A POST THAT SPECIFICALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE PROBLEM. Thanks.

      • Do you still have all the images?
I might be able to auto rename and put them where the new wordpress installation wants to find them.

Alternatively have could you ask wordpress.com to give you a zip-file of your media folder?

Also even without all the images it would still be a valuable resource, even though there was so much screenshot documentation its still better than nothing.

  11. Dearest Gallus Mag, you have been a pivotal provider of investigative journalism and lesbian feminism that women have so desperately needed. I devoured the entirety of your blog with relish, once I realised what was happening. You have done so much for women. Thank you.

Please, set up a GoFundMe or a Patreon so that we can support you to design and build a website that can survive this censorious policing by techbro companies. Whether you are able to move all of your content or not, your work is herstoric and important for our entire movement, and should be archived, not just for the benefit of all the women who rely on it, now; your work is necessary for all the women who don’t know they need it, yet.

  12. Please make sure the media reports on this. These types of outrages are what exposed (for me) what the trans activist community is truly about: the misogynistic bullying and silencing of women. I’m sure Meghan Murphy will write about this, and I hope Julie Bindel, Glosswitch, Janice Turner, and Sarah Ditum are made aware as well. The fact that Word Press is protecting a white male sexual predator at the expense of women must be made well known. The conservative media might also be interested in this. Disgusting.

    • The conservative media might also be interested in this. Disgusting.

The conservative media is interested in this. Rod Dreher, senior editor at the American Conservative, just picked up on this and made a blog entry about it today.

      https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/transgender-totalitarianism/

This destructive pseudo-science and psychotic ideology has brought secular liberals and social conservatives together.

Since I first read this article on GenderTrender I had tried searching on Google but the other articles were very restrained and timid, only referencing Yaniv with the initials “JY”, and having none of the content Gallus Mag included, such as the messages about the nudity he hoped to see in the locker room of a women’s gym that he joined.

Now this story is getting out, it appears to have legs, and Gallus Mag was the one who blew it wide open. We don’t get this kind of coverage in the legacy media anymore because they are just a bunch of incurious hacks giving the party line.

  13. It’s time to initiate MASSIVE class-action lawsuits on the part of women everywhere. Women are being silenced in record numbers, whenever they question the narrative that some man has put forward.

We are sick and tired of it.

Screw you, WordPress, and those censors on your staff. We see you.

    • If we ever needed PROOF that this is deliberate social engineering put forward by Big pHarma and the billionaires out of greed…HERE IT IS.

    • I could almost say we roll with it, shrug and carry-on. BUT for the fact WordPress is protecting a sexual predator/pedophile/child molester in the planning. This is unconscionable. This is criminal. WordPress is complicit in this pervert’s crimes, and once this starts out on MSM, we WILL speak and name names.

Not a journalist working who does not want byline on a scandal. Yes, it will be the right who will go first, but even the ass-kissers at CBC will be forced to speak. Woman the media FB sites!

  14. Hi GM,
Your work has been so valuable to the feminist community I’m hoping there’s something else to be done. Has wordpress locked you out of the account entirely? I do some work with wordpress professionally so I’m hoping there might be some hidden way to get your website data.

    • The missing data is eight years of media and image files. Automattic doesn’t offer a transferable version of these files, and they are not included in the export HML file. Only links to the URLS of live images are included in the HML transfer file. Once those URLs go offline they cannot be transferred.

  15. Oh, GallusMag: Your website was the best. The most informative on gender madness. I so looked forward to reading every post. You have contributed so much to all females/lesbians/children. More than most. Your work is invaluable, and though i don’t understand all this crap about who can and cannot have a voice on the web and who gets to police it (the men, of course) I am hoping that you find a way to continue the excellent, informative and essential work you are doing and that we can all continue to support you in whatever your choices. There is no other site like yours and we need it for our continuing struggle against the madness, the misogyny, the homophobia of “gender identity” cult insanity. Please take care and let us know how to help. This is a great loss.

  16. Reblogged this on RadFemSpiraling and commented:
WordPress is protecting a male that is, by his own words, looking for a 10 year old girl that he can manipulate into “teaching” her how to insert a tampon, and he is going into women’s restrooms, looking for little girls.

    By his own words.

Gallusmag posted a warning at Gendertrender that included his OWN WORDS.

WordPress shut Gallusmag down for trying to warn women about this pervy male. She did not break the law. But WordPress loves males that want to molest little girls and will protect them by shutting down women that try to shout a warning using the male perverts OWN WORDS.

    • This is exactly right.

I wrote an email to the chair of the BC Human Rights Commission after reading Gallus Mag’s post about Yaniv. I am sure I am not the only reader who did.

Could they be behind this? I’m just wondering if a demand from some “official / governmental” entity is what spooked WordPress. I am sure they were getting complaints about GenderTrender from transactvists for years.

The chair of the BC HRC did not write back. But realizing JUST how bad this would make them look if the larger Canadian public heard about it, it seems possible they turned their ass-covering lawyer fire on WordPress in hope of just dragging it out of the bright sunshine Gallus Mag was letting in.

      • Well, the affect is the opposite. This is everywhere. This pedophile was attempting to bury his perving by silencing us. His name, his image, his web pages and presence, and of course, screenshots of him speaking about violating little girls, while he was speaking to teenage girls, are all over the web. His pedo crap comes up when I Google his name.

It is now looking as if WordPress will be knowingly and with intent assisting a pedophile to gain access to little girls if they decide to kick a bunch of women that are shouting a warning about it. He shut gallus up, for a bit. He didn’t get us all, though.

      • Please provide any and all contact info you have of the B.C. Human Rights Commission Chair: Name, email, snail mail, phone number, etc. so that we have diverse ways to contact that person. For example, I’m not on Twitter, and prefer to send postcards, but would also email. Some would call, as well. I think we each should do all of them. That’s what trans do, and we should, too. Will you please post that contact info here so we can push back en masse?

  17. Thank you so much Gallus for all your fine work and dedication. If there is anything I can do to help get your site back up or hold the censors at WordPress to account, please let e know.

  18. !! The full site CAN be moved to different server.
I do website programming for a living and am happy to help now and for free.

You need 2 things backed up/ downloaded from the old webspace:
    1) the database contents (where all the text etc. is)
    2) the media folder (where all the images etc. are)

You can contact me per PM on Peach Yoghurt’s forum if you like:
    https://genderhammer.com/

Please let someone at least try and restore this important site elsewhere.
Thank you for your years of amazing work which CANNOT be lost.

  19. When GenderTrender went dark, I assumed Yaniv was somehow behind it. It looked from the screenshots in your post as if he might still be using Jonathan professionally, so that isn’t even his “former” name in the strictest sense. If it’s now considered malicious to expose the actions of predatory males in a way that limits their ability to find new victims or reveals their behavior to those who employ them under their legal names, the trans movement has officially crossed the line to totalitarianism.

Gallus Mag, I’m so sorry this has happened. You did brilliant work, and it was a revelation to come upon your site and find there were other people questioning the trans movement, that I wasn’t alone in thinking we’d boarded the train to Crazy Town. Thank you for all you’ve done! The censoring of GenderTrender proves you were right.

  20. Dear Gallus,

As a poster above mentioned, please set up a Patreon or gofundme so that your many supporters can help you. Your work is invaluable and must not be silenced!

  21. Thank you, 4thwave, for inviting Gallus Mag to make her statement.

Gallus, your blog was the first I found soon after my daughter handed me her “I am your son” letter on Mother’s Day, almost 5 years ago. I learned so much from your posts about what was really going on in the world of the transcult and I am truly grateful to you for this. You were a voice of reason that I needed to confront this nightmare that is still continuing with my daughter. You are truly a great investigative journalist and your followers are so articulate and intelligent, it was always a pleasure to read and follow your blog.

I wish you the best and if you’re up to it to start a new blog, I will be there to support you!

  22. Hi Gallus Mag!
“I have requested that Automattic provide me with a transferable export of GenderTrender and my other blogs and am breathlessly awaiting their reply.”

This is a SOFTWARE problem and ALL THE SOCIAL AND BLOG PLATFORMS have it: the data you put in, you will never get it out. Even if you pay their service. Why? They didn’t solve the problem of the format and the technology 10+ years ago and they still didn’t because it’s a PRIVATE BUSINESS not regulated by the state like the fucking telephony is. There are no standards.

I remember when I exported my Posterous blog to import it into a WordPress. It didn’t work!
I know that Facebook is also NOT giving you your data in a “transferable format” – so you can back it up on another platform. I know that Twitter is not letting you download all your data (the fucking actual files you put up there!). I have old Twitter account from 2006 where I can get full backup, but it’s still usable only as a “dead drop” – not publishable as itself at all. Why? You need to be a programmer to make sense of the structuring of your data that they do. The other accounts I have are not able to EVEN GET my data downloaded, because they’re newer, and I guess they didn’t deploy their new download to all of their users. Also, you cannot read about this Twitter download shit anywhere. They’re not even obliged to inform us.

All our social media accounts are a waste of time. Like all Silicone Willy (not a typo!) products online today. Feminists should be smarter and not rely on it at all.
Internet activism in 2018 was a year when feminists are massively being banned and their content deleted. Also, this is the year when feminists are going to understand that their work should not end up as a private company possession.

    • WordPress is not a social media though – it is a CMS (Content Management Software).

Like all CMS it has a database and a media folder and with both of those it can be moved to any server – doesnt have to be on wordpress.com – thats just the most easy way to get a wordpress going but by no means the only one.

The database might be in a weird or messy format but that can be fixed.

      • Yes, of course WPis not “social media” but their CMS is primarily used for connecting to PEOPLE trough blog/website creation. The point is having an environment. WP platform (as in their hosting space and free service) is functioning as any social media site. I myself follow many blogs trough WP platform.
So, when I loose my site, I loose my connections as I would loose my FB friends. If one use their platform and host with their company, you’re BOUND by their software and the environment they provide. ALL the Silicone Willy products went from “THE NEW FRONTIER” phase to the “WE GOT YOU TRAPPED” phase. How do I know that? I used to hack all sorts of Internet software concepts on WP, Tumblr, Posterous,Twitter, Facebook, etc etc!

“Content transferability” is a unsolvable topic since Web 2.0. A perspective of a programmer is not at question here. Is it doable? Yes – of course it is!

Having raw DATA is the problem. They still give people DOCUMENTS not DATA. Twitter or Facebook didn’t give you your DATABASE – since 2006 at least – not until 2018. I saw it done right on my 12 years old Twitter account for the first time in 2018!!!. And I think the new download is still not deployed on the whole platform.

The problem is that primarily goal of “invention” in Silicone Willy made all these structures – not standardized and regulated like some other technologies are (for example telephony, print).

      • @Sajber: So WordPress.com is not gonna let you export your database?
What format do they give you the backup then – a generated PDF or something like that?

  23. Pingback: WordPress censors GenderTrender. Gallus Mag responds

  24. Gallus Mag, you are my hero. I have a monthly contribution to you that I have no intention of canceling until I have evidence that you’re permanently retiring your internet platform(s).

  25. I’m still trying to understand how they can take a blog for ‘deadnaming’ when dude is still actively using the name! Gallus Mag has a PayPal maybe we should all donate to it. I’ve got my receipts but can’t figure out how to post the link.

I hope she is able to migrate to another site preferably one in Iceland which I understand is impervious to this type bullshit. If she does we’re going to have to consistently support her. This has to be massively traumatic for her and I would definitely understand if she chooses to walk away. My heart would be broken but I would understand.

      • Yes, but changing posting frequency and maybe stopping (TEN YEARS!!!) would have been her choice, and she would not have wiped her site. It’s a resource that belongs to us all. This is our herstory that they have robbed from Gallus and us.

        Men in IT. Total fuckers.

    • It is traumatic and I’m taking a few days (or maybe forever!) to relax. With a few short exceptions, I have moderated GenderTrender every single day, several times a day, around the clock, for eight years! I’ve never had a vacation before! I always hated the idea of someone taking the time to comment and then having to wait unduly to see their contribution appear.

I’m considering my options. It would be nice to have my blog back. It would be nice to have an archive of my work, and all of the extensive communal work of many, many, women who contributed their thoughts and perspectives over the near decade of GenderTrender. I’m not going to hand over my HML files with the contact information and ISPs of thousands of women to a stranger on the internet in order to satisfy my ambition to preserve my work.

There’s also the much bigger and better version of GenderTrender I’ve been envisioning for at least the last few years, as the landscape of gender critical discussion and media has broadened and changed.
I never launched GenderTrender 2.0 because I lack the technological skills to build the site which would have quite a few specific requirements. Also the skills required to fend off continual hacking and DDOS type attacks from hostile men is beyond my skill level (and may actually be impossible). But the dream is still there, and I do have a vision of how to structure a bigger, better version of the site that is better attuned to the rapidly changing present discourse. So there’s that.

      You never know.

For now, thank you to everyone sharing your thoughts and your tears. It means a lot. x

      • you don’t have to run your own actual physical server, the webhosting packages available for about 10 bucks a month do that for you and take care of that stuff like like ddosing for you too, its part of the package you pay them for.

Thats how peachy did it for genderhammer.
With the rest of the tech stuff my offer for help still stands, like I said I’m a website programmer.

If youre okay to switching to a different software than wordpress I could also make you your 2.0 version (wordpress is has a shitty coding quality). That would be a nice way of sticking it to the man wouldnt it – bringing it back 2.0 and better.

You could take your well deserved vacation first anyway and pick it up later.

      • Enjoy your break Gallus. I knew when the HUB went down that trying to create a permanent online radical feminist archives was doomed to fail. And I learned that women will stop at nothing to drain every last drop out of women who have already given everything, including shouldering the burdens that should be shared by the “community” but which never are. So, this “we need you!” guilt tripping is really a bit comical, and tragic, and frankly untrue. I’m sure there are more than a few women here who have been there, done that with all of this and who know what I am talking about and responding to. And many, many more who probably have no clue. lol. Anyway, please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. I don’t have much energy these days, but I am still a content creator and an Esq. if that would help somehow. You tell me. <3

  26. Using the word balls is equivalent to using the c-bomb. You demean yourself and your publication by this tactic. Please use correct medical terminology if you must refer to specific anatomical parts.

    • There is literally no word about male anatomy which carries the negative hatefulness of the c-bomb. “Balls” is said, in primetime, on a family sitcom (The Goldbergs) with regularity by a CHILD. And is referring to testicles.

      • Lame. In the past this site felt reasonable and even professional.

A scan of comment thread above shows that I have no place here. You win, I leave.

      • First: Do you know the difference between comments and the articles people are commenting on? Second: This particular post is especially focused on the repression of bloggers by Big Tech organizations. It’s ironic that you are going to take your marbles and go home because you don’t like what some commenters are saying. Read our comment policy. Finally: With all due respect, if you think the word “balls“ is some sort of a no-no in 2018, you might want to broaden the scope of what you read.

      • Well, when you post that a slang term for testicles is beyond the pale and the same as the most misogynistic and aggressive word aimed at women in the English language, reducing us to our sex organ? I’m not going to let that pass by.

        Lame, indeed.

      • I realize that I said I was leaving and now here I am commenting again, but dam, Gallus Mag herself liked my comment. Here’s my beef:

Before this site was about rapid onset transgenderism in kids and experimental hormone treatments that could be harmful. I could get behind that. I’m transgender, yes, but also a parent of many kids.

But this post, wow. The thread is very anti-trans. Any semblance of rational discussion is lost. It’s as if the American Heritage Institute is on board here now, and I am automatically the enemy for being transgender.

I feel no sense of “we can discuss this and find some middle ground” here. I don’t know what happened to this site. It’s sad.

“Taking my ball and going home” is not the case. Taking my attention to somewhere that transgender medical issues will be discussed in a rational, reasonable manner, is actually what is happening.

No great loss to you my dear reader. Enjoy your echo chamber.

      • Poor, poor MerriKat. Better to scream your identification status and make yourself a victim than admit that you made an ill-considered comment. The lengths some people will go to.

  27. Hi GM,

I’m sorry you are having to deal with this anti-feminist nonsense. Your blog is the Mothership of the gender-critical movement. The movement simply would not be happening today if it weren’t for you creating and tirelessly researching posts for GenderTrender.

I am not ready or about to give up.

We, your grateful readers and allies, need to push back MASSIVELY against Word Press for doing this.
    .
Just as trans get their way by constantly mobilizing hundreds.of people to blitz the powers that be to do their bidding, we need to do the same with WordPress. But who do we contact? I don’t know. Even if I researched it, I’m not sure my comments would reach the right people to talk to about reinstating your blog.
    .
Please post an email or link we can write to at WordPress, that we can complain long and loud to, demanding they restore your blog, and reverse their new policy regarding use of former names, which prevents full and accurate investigative reporting: imperative for all decision-makers, including an informed public.

Your providing us with the right WordPress link or email to complain to, and our writing to
them, should be our first course of action.
    .
Providing that correct contact information would make it much easier and therefore the most likely that the largest number of people will take this necessary action.

    Please help us do so.

    • Quite a few people are tweeting at wordpress. If for no other reason, males are crying hysterically at wordpress about stopping women from acknowledging factual reality and notifying the world of their intentions towards women and girls by showing their own pervy words.

      • Unfortunately, I’m not on Twitter. Glad to hear others are doing so there. Would appreciate a reply from GM or anyone else re who to email.
Also, I hope everyone will contact the B.C. Human Rights Commission. We need to blitz them. And anyone else we can think of. Please provide contact.info here.

    • Can we at least get an explanation from Word Press about where the complaint to which they are responding originated? If it was the BC Human Rights Commission, that’s a publicly funded entity and we can Barbara Streisand Effect the bejeezus out of it.

  29. As pointed out, there are many solutions for retrieving your site. Always, set up a backup system with one of the free plugins. This will email you the database.

NEVER trust that the host does this unless it is WP Engine

Get a $10 a month plan with blue host. You will now be in control and wonder why you did not do that earlier. WordPress.com is very limiting.

    • Blue host ToS includes:

      —-
      Other Illegal Activities.

The use of the Services to engage in any activity that is determined by Bluehost, in its sole and absolute discretion, to be illegal is prohibited. Such illegal activities include, but are not limited to, storing, posting, displaying, transmitting or otherwise making available ponzi or pyramid schemes, fraudulently charging credit cards or displaying credit card information of third parties without their consent, failure to comply with applicable on-line privacy laws or any executive orders, as well as any rules, regulations or orders issued by the Office of Foreign Asset Controls (“OFAC”). Bluehost will cooperate fully with appropriate law enforcement agencies in connection with any and all illegal activities occurring on or through the Services.

Obscene, Defamatory, Abusive or Threatening Language.

Use of the Services to store, post, transmit, display or otherwise make available obscene, defamatory, harassing, abusive or threatening language is prohibited.
      —-

I’m just a fed up radfem looking for a place to write online, and afraid of getting involved with this rampant censorship once I get the energy up to actually do so. Anyone use Blue host or know how they define “defamatory, harassing, abusive or threatening”? This sounds wide open to me.

  30. I am sad because it looks like this might be goodbye. I hope not, but I would understand if you decided not to keep blogging. You’ve been at it a long time even without the constant harassment. I just want to say that your blog appeared at a critical moment when a consistent voice specialized in critiquing the gender identity movement was needed. As others have stepped up, your blog has continued to be important because people on both sides of the debate trust you to get the facts correct and verified before you post, rather than passing on rumors as so many media outlets do. Not to mention that your blog was entertaining and well written. As for the Congressional inquiry–we’re at that point, aren’t we? This, together with other things that happened this week in the social media company feminist censorship project, has proved that social media companies cannot regulate themselves for fair and open speech. I will be speaking to my Congress critter.

  31. Gallus, I can’t believe that GenderTrender isn’t there. When I was at my very lowest I discovered your blog. It saved me and gave me strength to carry on and I learned so much from you and the other regulars who commented. You stood up for all women who have had their daily lives upended by misogynistic men who claim that they knew how to be women. I appreciated your post on “transwidows” and that you gave us a space to express our stories and thoughts so very much.
No one else has done nearly so much.
I know nothing about WordPress or setting up a blog, but it looks like there are others out there who do. I’m so hoping to see you back soon. Take care.

  32. Any time I needed crucial information on a story I was doing, or simply to look up a male predator, I relied on GenderTrender to do it. I will happily help pitch in to a crowdfund to allow Gallus to host her own domain so that she can repost the site in full. We desperately need GT to be online. It is probably one of the most important sites documenting the erasure of women and the men behind it.

Please let us know how much money you need. We can’t let GT be taken offline forever.

  33. Are you lawyering up?

I am furious about this. I will be seeing a lawyer about something related this week and will ask about WordPress and other similar companies and how to take legal action if I need to. I have no idea how jurisdictions work for something like this. I recently posted TERF content and while I do not deadname anyone but Christopher/Jessica Hambrook, I’m not even sure that person is trans. Regardless, the AFTA will keep pushing to amend the rules until anyone who posts anything contrary to their POV will be taken down.

I had my own website (with unlimited domains) and took it all down this summer. Maybe once my name change goes through (I’m “detransitioning” to my birth name) I will set up another website – if I can be sure I will not be arbitrarily banned. I will need to pick a location where I understand and can work with the laws.

WordPress, you have ruined your good reputation.

And Gallus, please restore your blog somewhere safe. We need it. (Though having that mirror is good, too.)
